JAPANESE
COMPANIES PARTICIPATE IN TRIPOLI INTERNATIONAL FAIR
Kyodo
News reports that twelve Japanese companies or groups are
participating in the 36th Tripoli International Fair from April
2nd to 12th. The fair is expected to host about 2,000 corporations
from around the world, and draw in about 250,000 visitors. It
is situated on Tripoli’s Omar Mukhtar Street, and covers
about 90,000 square meters of territory.

Unfortunately, the information on Japanese involvement in the
fair is quite limited. The JETRO website suggests that they
have been participating in the Tripoli International Fair annually
since 2000. It is not clear which twelve Japanese organizations
are participating, except for Teikoku Oil and Sharp, representatives
of which had quotations in the Kyodo piece.
From
Atsushi Inoue of the Teikoku Oil subsidiary of Inpex: “Libya
is an attractive treasure-trove.”
From
Chikashi Yokota of Sharp: “We do not expect our participation
to produce the immediate effect of inducing sales here. Our
aim is to have Libyan people become familiar with our liquid
crystal display televisions.”
At
any rate, the general message is that some Japanese companies
are eyeing an entry into the Libyan market.
