has made the following announcement:
VICE-MINISTER
FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS SHINTARO ITO TO VISIT MIDDLE EAST

1)
From 29 July (Sat) to 7 August (Mon), Mr. Shintaro Ito, Vice-Minister
(Parliamentary) for Foreign Affairs, will visit the United Arab
Emirates, Yemen, Israel, the Palestinian territories and Tunisia.
2)
In the United Arab Emirates (Dubai), Mr. Ito will visit a free
zone where many Japanese companies are engaged in business activities
and will also exchange views with key figures of the Dubai government
on the economic development of Dubai and the current business
activities of the Japanese companies there.
3)
In Yemen, Mr. Ito will exchange views with counterparts of the
Yemeni government on future bilateral relations and the regional
situation on the basis of the results of the visit of President
Saleh of the Yemeni government to Japan last November.
4)
In Israel and the Palestinian territories, Mr. Ito, in response
to the current situation in the Middle East, will hold meetings
with key figures of both sides to exchange views on the recent
developments as well as call for their restraint. He will also
discuss the concept for "the Corridor for Peace and Prosperity"
which Prime Minister Koizumi announced at his last visit to
this region as one of the Japan's efforts for co-existence and
co-prosperity.

In Tunisia, Mr. Ito will exchange views with his counterparts
in the Tunisian government on further development of the bilateral
relations on the occasion of the 50th anniversary for the establishment
of the diplomatic relations between Japan and Tunisia.
